Patients
The
Sapphire Primary clinic, built on-site at the school, serves students,
their families, and the local township community. Opening in February,
2007, it is staffed by a volunteer doctor and volunteer nurses.
Primary care, immunizations, HIV/AIDS education and well child
care are its priority and has already served thousands of patients.
Because of the success of this model, Principal Bruce Damons was
invited to speak at the World Health Organization conference, in
Vancouver, Canada, as an expert in school based health programs.
WHO and the South African government have endorsed this model,
and hope to replicate it throughout South Africa’s disadvantaged
communities.
