Gardens
Active Schools has built a number of organic gardens on school grounds, staffed entirely by community volunteers. Supplying fresh and natural produce to families affected by HIV/AIDS is the top priority since it is widely believed that nutrition is an important part of combating the pandemic. The harvest is also used in school feeding programs, supplying breakfast for hungry children. Sales of vegetables at the local farmer’s market keep the program self-sustaining.
